Cycle Style

My husband just bought a bike and I'm a little envious. Even though my mode of transport is a car (often with kids in tow) and I go to the gym most days, the idea of a shiny new bicycle is appealing. Some of the latest designs are so beautiful - surely they must count as a style accessory!

Here are a few of my picks.

The hand-crafted Madison bike by Detroit Bicycle Company is a stunner. I love it's black retro look.

The DV01 bicycle by designer David Qvick perfectly combines form and function. The beauty of this bike is revealed in its simplicity, combined with sleek and pristine detailing.

The Porteur Bicycle by Design agency Detail, is a beautiful, vintage inspired bike with a contemporary twist. Designer Matthew Conway sourced a ‘70s chrome Carlton and turned it into a stunning ‘50s-style porteur bike. I just love the shiny silver frame and leather detailing.

Bikes like these are almost too lovely to take outside, so why not display them in your space. Hallways, living rooms or under the stairs, they will be right at home with other designer products and pieces of art.

Bicycle Club by NL Architects

Believe it or not, this image shows a plan for a cycle-hire shop that is going to be built in Southern China. The Dutch studio NL Architects are currently working on detailed designs for constructions that include a velodrome on the roof. How cool is that?

A shop and cafe on the ground floor will be shaded by glazed exterior walls protruding from the curved rooftop track. Customers will be able to hire a bike and then head up to the track via central staircases which will also serve as seating for spectators. Brilliant!

You can read more about these plans on the Dezeen Magazine website here.

Neon Dipped

If you want to use neon to add some pizazz without overpowering, then 'dipping' is the way to go. Whether it's furniture, homewares or fashion, this trend will instantly update and inject style into your home or wardrobe. A great way to upcycle, why not DIY? Just grab some spray paint in your favourite neon colour and away you go!

Homes to Inspire | Swedish Apartment

This gorgeous Swedish Apartment is up for sale and I must say I envy the lucky person who gets to buy it! Floors have been painted light grey and the walls white, but the real show-stopper is the the wallpaper. My favourite is the super stylish birch-patterned wallpaper from Cole & Son in the living room above.

Britomart's Fashion Following

Fast becoming Auckland's most exclusive shopping destination, Britomart has recently welcomed three of New Zealand's iconic fashion houses to it's Tyler Street precinct; Zambesi, WORLD and Kate Sylvester.

WORLD’s new luxury flagship store at Britomart showcases collections that are all proudly handmade in NZ. The internationally renowned WORLD, WORLD Man and WORLD Couture ranges certainly impress, as does the eclectic store interior which combines antiques, religious relics and taxidermy. So much eye-candy!

Tyler Street Zambesi, is the only store to carry a full range of Zambesi womenswear and menswear. Not only that, the flagship boutique carries a carefully selected range of other designers alongside the Zambesi label. These are Nom*D, Maison Martin Margiela, Rick Owens, Raf Simons, Complex Geometries, Acne Menswear, NDC Shoes and LD Tuttle Shoes.

The Kate Sylvester Britomart boutique stocks full collections of both Kate Sylvester and ‘naughty little sister’ label Sylvester, as well as Kate Sylvester eyewear, shoes and other accessories.

I especially love the interior of this store which has a mix of industrial features like non-treated concrete pillars and ironwork ceiling panels, mixed with soft blond wood fittings and pretty pastel colours. The design of the boutique reflects the collections which "explore contrasts and incongruities".
