Mim Design

With our building project now underway, I'm spending even more time than usual scouring the web for interior inspiration. A recent discovery which is proving to be a great resource is the site of Melbourne based interior design practice Mim Design. Located in South Yarra, the company was founded by interior designer Miriam Fanning, and she heads a team of talented creatives whose combined expertise has resulted in an amazing portfolio of work. I've picked out some of their residential projects to share with you. 


This Melbourne project is a stunning example of how to merge old with new. While aspects of the original Victorian architecture have been maintained, the home has been given a modern, contemporary feel. 


I'm obsessed with these glossy white subway tiles, having first written about them here. They have a beautiful handmade, vintage look and I love the way the light plays on the surface. 




Despite being new, this residence has a relaxed, lived-in feel perfect for its coastal location at Barwon Heads. I love its simplicity and textural finishes, especially the timber floors and chalky colour palette.



Located in Hawthorn, Melbourne, this Edwardian residence has had a complete interior renovation throughout. Warm colours and clean, neutral materials have resulted in a lovely revival.  



Originally a Victorian mansion, this Melbourne home has a beautiful gallery feel, thanks to a modern architectural extension. The interior follows suit, mixing traditional and contemporary with stunning finishes, furniture and artwork.

Thread Design


Stylish bedlinen always gets my heart racing, and for me, there's one company here in NZ that stands out. Bedding and homewares label Thread Design was started in 2001 by the lovely, talented design duo Sarah Sadgrove and Katie Collis. Their gorgeous range of products are stocked by exclusive homeware, linen and department stores throughout NZ and overseas. 

Sarah and Katie's approach to design is similar to that of fashion designers, with new collections released each season. This makes sense when you learn that they both come from a background in fashion. Not only do they design each new range themselves, the products are made here in NZ from quality cotton and natural fibres like lambs wool, angora and linen. 




Each range is well thought out with stunning colour combinations and bold designs to mix and match. Circles and stripes, crosses or chevron...there are so many great choices! 

When it comes to decorating your child's room, Thread Design has it covered. Contemporary designs to compliment any decor, the Kids Collection is a must see!



Here's a peek at their latest range, beautifully styled for a recent photo shoot. I'm completely smitten with the colours and new triangle design, which looks amazing with their signature cross!

Lifestyle Photography | Brandts Indoor



I discovered these beautiful photos when I clicked through from a Pinterest image, and landed at Behance, an online platform for showcasing and discovering creative work. The series was shot by Danish Photographer Diana Lovring, for Brandts Indoor, a company which mixes ethnic style with Scandinavian interior design. The images have featured in many lifestyle magazines and beautifully capture the brand's fusion of Nordic style and folklore details. 





Buying trips to remote destinations have resulted in a unique range of products including homewares, textiles, ethnic kilims, furniture, framed photography and specialist books. Available from their webshop, I would love to visit the shop in Odense, Denmark to really take in the incredible collection of treasures from around the world.

Amorfo Design Factory


If the image above looks familiar, you may remember it from a post I wrote some time ago on sideboard styling. I've since discovered, via Emmas Designblogg, that it's an image taken from the home of Italian architects Marcello and Maria Pia Zappador of the architect firm Amorfo. I absolutely love the concrete wall and line of the lamp, and was excited to see more photos of the house. 


There is a beautiful, sleek kitchen and upstairs loft room, all very minimalist in style. The highlight for me would have to be the incredible oversized doors which lead to a gorgeous outdoor area. Swoon!

I couldn't wait to check out Amorfo's site to see more of their architectural work, and to my delight, found a whole series of projects across a range of disciplines. Varied and interesting, their portfolio also includes work in interiors, design, graphics and events.

This cross-sectional approach involves a constant blending of subjects such as technology, design, materials, art and fashion. Their unique design is applied to a range of environments including living, work and leisure. Whether they are working on a brand new building, a shop fitout or a minimal installation, the end result is always stunning.




I'm always drawn to pendant lights, and they are a common feature in Amorfo's design work. For details on these stunning lights take a look here. I love the pop of green neon on the ceramics image. 


Amorfo has an eye-catching portfolio of graphic design work, featuring lots of geometric shapes and bright colours.

2013 Calendar Roundup

I've done away with using a wall calendar in recent years but lately I've needed one more than ever. With our first child having recently started school (and as any parent of school-age children will tell you) there's a lot to keep up with! School trips, mufti-day, money for this, that and the other.... with so many things to remember it can be overwhelming!

Currently I rely on a memo board in our kitchen where I pin newsletters and reminders, and my diary where I write everything down, but for 2013 I'll definitely be adding a calendar to the mix. In addition to helping keep the family organised, it has to look great. While on a quest to hunt down the perfect calendar, I thought I'd share my finds with you. 


The decorative WallSticker Calendar by Ferm Living allows you to write on the stickers with chalk, and it comes with post its for making extra notes. Practical and stylish, this one is at the top of my wishlist!


Beautifully simple, this A3 sized, minimalist 2013 Calendar has been designed by Riikka, the talented designer behind RK Design and the blog Weekday Carnival. 


The iconic Stendig Calendar, designed by Massimo Vignelli in 1966, is part of the permanent design collection at the MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art). Fitting into any room of the home, I'd love to have this simple, timeless design displayed on the wall in our workspace. The calendar consists of twelve sheets, with some months printed in black lettering on a white background, and others reversed, with white on black. Pages are perforated, to allow them to be torn away neatly. They are available in NZ from Paper Room.

Some calendar sheets are too beautiful to discard once the month is up, which is why the 2013 Cities Calendar by Rifles Paper Co. is a great option. As demonstrated in this clever styling collaboration between Paper Mash and stylist Charlotte Love, at the end of each month you can cut, mount and frame the gorgeous images. Genius!


The Harvest Calendar by Norwegian design agency Darling Clementine gets my tick for being printed on recycled paper. Not only that, who can resist such sweet designs, inspired by timeless Scandinavian imagery?
