Dining Chairs | Inspiration & Wishlist

I've talked before about my love of chairs and how much I would love a set of Wishbone Chairs for the dining table. Of course I would have to save up and buy one at a time, and it would probably take me forever, but it would be worth it! Designed by Hans Wegner in 1949, the rounded shape of the chair is really beautiful. In fact most of my favourite dining chairs have a similar elegance and aesthetic. In addition to the design classics that have well and truly stood the test of time, there are some newer designs that I currently love, from Danish brands such as Hay, Muuto and &Tradition. Combining form and function, these chairs not only look incredible, they will go the distance when it comes to comfort at seated dinner parties!

Scrolling through my Pinterest I had many stunning images of the chairs mentioned above, especially Wishbone and Thonet chairs. Here are a few, but if you need further inspiration check out my Dining board.

Kristina Krogh | November Wishlist

Apologies for the no-show yesterday. The day slipped away from me, in part because I had to get the house ready for a product shoot I was styling in the afternoon. Perfect timing after the Megan Morton Styling Masterclass I attended on the weekend. An amazingly inspiring day, I couldn't wait to put some of what I learnt into action! I'm also looking forward to sharing the results of that shoot with you on the blog soon.

As you know, I'm a massive fan of the Danish graphic designer and artist Kristina Krogh, who hit the ground running with her first collection that I introduced you to here. In addition to a recent collaboration with Ferm Living, one of my favourite Danish homeware brands, Kristina has produced a stunning new range of art prints.

Incredibly authentic, Kristina's work is further enhanced by her beautiful styling. When I look at each of her styled pieces, I can't help but be inspired by the colour palette, textural effects, and accompanying objects. So much so, I've drawn from one that I particularly love, to curate ten picks from my current wishlist to share with you.

Homes to Inspire | Danish Design Duo

Having come across this stunning home on the weekend, I knew it would take a lot of patience to hold off till today to post it, but that was the earliest I could squeeze it in! Featured on Dwell, the Copenhagen loft belongs to two Danish designers and was once part of a pencil factory. That immediately rung a bell, so I did a bit of digging and found a previous tour of the home on Bo Bedre that I remembered from October last year. Just as the Dwell feature is now making tracks around the blogosphere, so did that article, but this time around I can't hold off sharing it with you. These fresh new images are so gorgeous, I only wish there were more!

The owners are Morten Bo Jensen, the chief designer at Danish industrial design company Vipp, and his partner Kristina May Olsen, a graphic designer. I've always admired the Vipp kitchens and products that regularly pop up on the Scandinavian blogs I follow, so it was no surprise to me that Morten's home would reflect the same clean design aesthetic Vipp is known for. Judging by Kristina's Pinterest boards which I've recently started following, she too has impeccable taste, and together, they've created an amazingly stylish family home.

The beautiful dining table was actually Morten's first piece for Vipp, featuring a powder-coated aluminium frame with a recycled, untreated teak top. Adding to the industrial style are the pendants that were once Copenhagen streetlights. Salvaged and rewired, they add a big dose of wow.

The striking black kitchen, designed by Morten for Vipp, provides a functional space for the couple and their gorgeous twin daughters Merle and Anine.

One of my favourite elements of this apartment is the exquisite Dinesen flooring that Morten and Katrina had installed. Finished with a white wash, it melds seamlessly with the walls. The built-in firewood nook was designed by Morten, and the indoor planters which were Katrina's idea are made from poured concrete and lacquered MDF panels. These clever design features help achieve that winning combination of monochrome, wood and touches of greenery.

I love the boxed shelving designed by Jesper Holm in the living area. Providing an alternative to the traditional sideboard, they are perfect for storing magazines and books. Katrina's own artworks are displayed on top.

Inspired by the apartment's history, Morten created the eye catching artwork above using Viking pencils. The white Konstantin Grcic for Magis Chair is one of my favourite design pieces.

Open shelves for displaying books and letters, a cute gallery wall and impressive dolls house make this a dream room for two little girls.

I'm also really inspired by the bathroom which features a Vipp vanity and mirror, Hansgrohe showerhead, beautiful floor tiles, statement light and touches of black and wood.

The Wooden Horse

The Wooden Horse founded by Joanne Whitney, is a new online store in NZ providing contemporary and vintage inspired Scandinavian homeware. Knowing that I have soft spot for Scandinavian design, Joanne recently got in touch and I'm so glad she did. It's such a pleasure to be the first to share her exciting new venture with you.

Wanting to provide quality design that is both stylish and functional, without the extravagant price-tag, I believe The Wooden Horse has achieved just that. Their carefully selected range of imported furniture and gifts include everything from chairs and cabinets to luxe velvet cushions, glassware and wire storage baskets. What's more, they have introduced the Danish design brand Madam Stoltz to NZ for the very first time. Currently sold all over Europe, this is a very exciting addition to our local market!

I was also pretty happy when Joanne said she'd got in touch with artist Kristina Krogh after seeing my post featuring her gorgeous range of posters. Constantly reviewing Scandinavian brands to add to their range, I'm looking forward to seeing how it expands.

I've picked out ten gorgeous products from The Wooden Horse to share with you, although it was hard to narrow it down as everything is so lovely. The range of velvet cushions in the images above are also high on my wish list!

I'm particularly taken with the hammered silver metal coffee table. So beautiful and unique, it comes in two sizes. The gorgeous industrial pendant light is a steal at only NZ $99.95! Check out the full range here. Happy shopping!

Kristina Krogh Studio

I'm seriously crushing on these posters right now. Created by Kristina Krogh, a freelance graphic designer and illustrator based in Copenhagen, they combine so many desirable elements. Firstly there are the geometric shapes arranged into different structures, then there's the cool mix of textural materials including wood, ply, cork and marble. A pastel-coloured background provides softness and contrast. Add to that some incredible styling, and I'm head over heels. I really think these artworks were meant for me!

The styling is so lovely it makes me want every gorgeous accessory and object Kristina has used. She clearly has an amazing eye, combining marble, coppery materials, and little everyday items to create on-trend, unique vignettes.

I'd love to see Kristina's work displayed in the home, preferably mine when it's finished being built! I've been following Kristina via her Facebook page and she said yesterday that she was doing last minute testing before launching her webshop, so keep an eye out for that. OYOY | Spring - Summer 2013

Ever since Danish interior design company OYOY launched last year with their Autumn/Winter range, I've been smitten. (You may remember the post I wrote introducing them). They've now released their New Collection for Spring/Summer 2013 and once again I'm hooked. Inspired by both Scandinavian and Japanese design (such a divine combo) the products mix simple graphics with natural materials and colour. Designer Lotte Fynboe's motto is "less is more" and this is reflected in the high-quality homewares that combine both form and function.

OYOY's signature geometric patterns are seen throughout the new collection, categorised room by room, which includes cushions, throws, kitchenware, accessories and a Nordic range by designer Kristina Dam. I'm loving the fun new designs like the hanging storage and wooden rabbits.
