Adore Magazine | Home Feature

A couple of weeks ago we had our home photographed for the gorgeous Australian online magazine Adore Home. That issue, the Christmas Edition went live on the 1st of December, and I'm very excited to be able to share the article with you today!

The editor, talented creative Loni Parker was so lovely to work with, as was the NZ-based photographer Helen Bankers, who specialises in advertising and editorial imagery, working across many leading magazines, shooting covers for the likes of Your Home & Garden, and Fashion Quarterly Entertaining. We had a lot of fun on the day of the shoot, and when Loni gave me a look at the photos I was blown away! I didn't know for sure if one had made the cover (Loni thought she'd surprise me) so when I saw it, I was over the moon! A lovely start to Christmas!!

Pop over here to read the article, and be sure to check out the whole issue. It's brimming with interior inspiration, including beautiful homes, Christmas gift guides, gorgeous summer styling and so much more. I'm sure like me, you'll get to the end feeling uplifted and ready to embrace this exciting time of year!

Instagram | Ideas & Inspiration

In case you missed it, I posted the first of this Instagram series about a week ago, as a way of sharing my own feed, as well as those of some of my favourite instagrammers. I loved receiving feedback from those of you who are on Instagram, and I hope that it may encourage those of who aren't to hop on board!

While I got the house ready for a shoot last Friday, I took advantage of the fresh flowers and gorgeous Hexagon Blush Bed Linen from Thread Design to take snaps for my IG feed! We received more beautiful flowers from friends on the weekend, and you can also see a glimpse of our washi-tape Christmas tree which has been a big hit with the boys! Our home will appear in the next issue of Adore Home, the gorgeous Australian online magazine, due out on December 1st. See a sneak peek over on the Adore Home blog.

In yesterday's Monday Mix Up post, I introduced you to Maaike Koster of My Deer. Based in the Netherlands, Maaike is a multi-talented graphic designer and interior stylist, and proud mum to two boys. A recent discovery, her IG feed is one of the most beautiful I have seen. Filled with monochrome loveliness (the family dog included), my heart literally melts at the photos of her home and family.

If you're on Instagram, and you haven't yet discovered Stephanie Somebody, then it's time to climb out from under your rock! Somewhat of a legend in the world of Instagram, Stephanie has close to 129 thousand followers, which in the words of Megan Morton is "more followers than Kylie Minogue". A teacher at Megan's The School, Stephanie recently visited Auckland and from what I've heard, wowed all those who attended her class, Instagram Debunked. Her feed is pure magic, making it very hard to pick just a few photos, so I went with a 'kitchen' theme as a way of narrowing it down. It also showcases Stephanie's beautifully natural, organic style. For those not yet on Instagram, you can check out her website here.

Knowing how big a fan I am of Weekday Carnival, the blog by Finnish photographer and designer Riikka Kantinkosk, it will come as no surprise that I find her Instagram feed to be up there with the best. What I love about Instagram is that it provides another layer and further inspiration from those whose blogs you follow. It's easy to 'like' and comment, making interaction easy and fun. Riikka's lovely styling and eye for detail is shown in these pictures which include her home and also a cute cafe. I love the combination of white with black and pink, as well as the addition of natural wood and metallic touches.

Est Magazine | Issue #10

Hot off the virtual press, Issue #10 of Est Magazine arrived in my inbox last night, providing the perfect bedtime reading. Page after page of fresh finds and stunning interiors, I thought I'd give you a sneak peek of the beautiful homes that are featured in this fabulous issue.

The first home belongs to Prue Brown, co-founder and director of lingerie and sleepwear label Love & Lustre. Incredibly stylish, I love how Prue mixes glam sophistication with a pared-back aesthetic. Her stunning collection of artwork and enviable wardrobe will have you drooling.

The image above is captivating. Featuring Prue's favourite artwork by Veronica Kent of a sleeping child, it reminds her of her own daughter. A vintage Missoni dress, artwork by Mike Parr and Givenchy shoes create another strikingly elegant corner in Prue's home.

Dutch felt artist Paula Leen's home reflects her love of wool and simple, organic living. Calming interiors that feature a natural colour palette and rustic materials like reclaimed wood and steel are seen throughout.

One of my favourite cities is Melbourne, having lived there for a while when I was younger. I sometimes imagine moving back there with my family, and having a weekend escape in the beautiful spa town of Daylesford. This next home belongs to a gorgeous young family who are living the dream. The stunning Scandi-style renovation and picturesque location provides an idyllic rural retreat and is also open to anyone wanting a country getaway.

Liz Leuchars, owner of fashion and homewares emporium Pond has a signature style that is understated and elegant. Reflected throughout her home, I love the muted palette, textural elements and timeless quality.

Justine Hugh-Jones Design

Thanks to Est Magazine, I recently discovered the inspiring work of Sydney designer Justine Hugh-Jones. Captivated by the clean lines, elegance and charm of her interiors I jumped straight over to her website to find out more. Met with an incredible portfolio of projects categorised by how we live, I've picked out some of my favourites to share with you.

Using predominantly white and grey palettes that showcase beautiful art, Justine creates incredibly calm, muted spaces that ooze style, with a little bit of luxury thrown in. I love Justine's use of natural materials such as stone and timber. Layered with linens, velvets, wools and silks, the homes are beautifully textural. Punctuated by colour, often by way of the art, there's always a dash of drama and contrast.

European influences from France and Scandinavia are seen throughout, from Justine's time living and studying in Europe. Since establishing her practice in Sydney in 2004, she has adapted her design to take advantage of light, with open plan spaces and outdoor living. Winner of the 2013 Belle Coco Republic Interior Design Readers Choice Award, it's easy to see why.

It's the last day of the school holidays today, so I'm off to have fun with my boys! Have a lovely weekend and I'll see you back here Monday x

IDH | New Online Magazine

With the house due for completion tomorrow, and our move in date now set for next Tuesday, to say I'm feeling a little overwhelmed is an understatement! Very excited, but there's just so, so much to do between now and then.

For that reason, today's post is brief, but it's an important one that I've been trying to sneak in since last Friday. You see that's when a fantastic new online magazine from Sydney company In A Designer Home went live. Now one of my sponsors, I first introduced you to Idh with this post. If you missed it, then let me tell you their site is one to bookmark! Firstly they have an amazing online store which stocks a stunning range of design products from Australia and around the world. With new designers and products coming on board all the time, they also have a fantastic blog with inspiring news and interviews. In fact just yesterday I was excited to see they had interviewed architect Nick Travers from Techne in Melbourne, whose work I featured recently with this home.

A while back Jamee, the founder of Idh contacted me to say they were launching an online magazine and that they'd like to include me in the the first issue. Of course I jumped at the chance, and was so excited to finally see it on Friday. Packed with loads of design goodness including interviews, a travel guide, new products, interior inspiration and more, I'm so honoured to be included, and I'm already looking forward to the next issue!

Here's a sneak peek...

And for free, you can read it all here. Enjoy!

Guest Post | Cush & Nooks

It's a pleasure to introduce you to my guest today. An Interiors guru, Vic's passion is evident in everything she shares on her fabulous blog Cush & Nooks. She also runs an online store and recently started up an interior decoration business Bibby + Brady!

Hi to all Michelle's readers, it's Vic here, from Cush & Nooks. I'm really happy to be guest posting on The Design Chaser today. Two of my favorite things are being inspired by other people's beautiful homes (I love seeing people's personalities expressed in their homes), and interior magazines. So I'm combining those two things in this post by showing you the home office of Apartment 34 blogger, Erin Hiemstra, which is featured in the latest Rue magazine.

As soon as I saw Erin's office I immediately knew I wanted to share it with you today. I felt that Erin's style was a pretty good blend of mine and Michelle's. Michelle loves Scandinavian design - gorgeous clean, stylish interiors. I do too, but also love to throw in lots of pattern and a bit of quirkiness.

Erin started her blog five years ago to document the renovation of her first home in Seattle. Over the years Apartment 34 has grown into a leading lifestyle site providing daily inspiration on shopping, personal style and home decor.

Because of the growth and success of her blog, Erin left her job to blog full-time. But working from her living room was taking a toll. When she and her husband recently relocated to a larger home, it meant she could have a real office. Somewhere she could close the doors and focus on work, somewhere she could fit a larger desk and a cosy sofa for visitors.

I love what Erin has achieved. She has managed to create a warm and inviting environment, perfect for daily creativity, while also maintaining a professional feel if a client visits. Make sure you pop over and read the whole story, and much more in the latest Rue.

Thanks for having me Michelle :) x

What a stunning office space. I'm heading over to Rue now!

I've been guest posting over on Milo and Mitzy today and I've featured a gorgeous home in Denmark, so make sure you check it out! See you back here tomorrow.

Est Magazine | Issue # 8

It's a public holiday here in NZ (Waitangi Day) which is rather nice, midweek! The sun is shining and the kids want to play, so just a quick post today to share with you some of my favourite pages from the latest issue of Est Magazine. Packed to the brim with stunning interiors, here's a peek at each of the three incredible homes featured. I know this will leave you wanting more, so if you haven't yet done so, make sure you pop over and subscribe - for free!

This home belongs to Eva Van Dongen, a freelance architect/designer and her family. Located in Amsterdam, I love the stylishly clean and simple interiors. Beautifully styled and photographed by one of my favourite creative pairs, Anouk B and Marjon Hoogervorst, whose work I featured in the post Concept 2012.

The next home in Mulhouse, Eastern France was built in the late nineteenth century. The current owners have given the home new life, while still retaining the original classical features. I love the dining room, with its parquet floors and unique art installation.

The last home is my favourite. A new build in Melbourne, design team Leibowitz and McLachlan were enlisted to help create the family home, and the results are breathtaking.
